Concept
A collaboration with the York-Eglinton BIA and Connall De Silva. tasked to craft a bicycle ring infused with cultural vibrance, set to adorn the streets of Little Jamaica. This partnership celebrates both cycling convenience and the rich heritage of the neighborhood, fostering unity and accessibility.
First Design
York-Eglinton BIA holds the east edge of Little Jamaica. There is a rich history in the area. Therefore to capture that history many different ideas were sketched out.
Design Shortlist
Out of these many sketches three were chosen to be further developed.
Choosing the best design
There is a rich musical history in the area. Therefore to capture that history the the record player motif design was chosen.
To accurately replicate the dimensions and form and to keep costs low the bike ring was laser cut from sheets of carboard. This was then glued together to give the ring the proper thickness followed by a paint job to emulate Corten steel.
